The APSTA Peacekeeping This Month is pleased to share with you the latest United Nations report reviewing the available mechanisms to finance and support African Union Peace Support Operations (PSOs).
The joint AU-UN review assessed the available mechanisms to finance and support PSOs mandated or authorised by the African Union to facilitate a common understanding of how the AU-UN partnership on peace operations has evolved along these dimensions, and identify and build on best practices. In this regard, the review examined external support provided to the 12 PSOs mandated or authorised by the AU to date. It also examined related considerations of doctrine, capability, safety and security, human rights and accountability.
The report covers an overview of the AU-UN partnership on PSOs, a survey and assessment of past and present support provided to AU PSOs, and analysis of doctrinal considerations, as well as the AU’s ongoing efforts to develop its capabilities, the safety and security of peacekeepers, and human rights and accountability issues relevant to discussions on support.
